Boardwalks

Each Spring the board spends a couple of days marking the walkways with spray paint and then the contractor comes in over a three week period replacing boards, hauling the old ones away and trimming back the bushes. Over the year we usually get 3-5 calls about additional repairs and they are handled as needed.

Spring 2014 replacing 386 boards and hand railings.

Spring 2013: replaced sections of six railings and 445 boards.

In response to a question on the use of Trex as a repair material, it was noted that use of the material was cost-prohibitive at this time.

Kinnakeet Shores Property Owners Association (KSPOA) maintains the following 9 boardwalks:

  • Three on Ocean View drive from Pampus south between lots 7 and 8, 18 and 19 and 28 and 29.
  • Four on Greenwood Place between lots 66 and 67, 75 and 76 and 84 and 85 with the fourth one going from Greenwood Place to NC Hwy 12 between lots 88 and 89.
  • One from Pheasant Circle to NC Hwy12 between lots 10 and 11.
  • One from Cedar Circle to NC Hwy 12 between lots 40 and 41.

Greater Kinnakeet Shores maintains 7 public walkways off Ocean View Drive, between Islander Condos and Pampas Street.

The following boardwalks are considered private and not covered by any know property owners association:

  • Croaker Court
  • etc.

One of the reasons APOA does not maintain the walkways off of Croaker and other areas is because both of these streets are NOT state maintained but the responsibility of the property owners. If the APOA board decides to change this policy we may have to explore how many other boardwalks this may affect. The current APOA boardwalk policy covers boardwalks to the ocean.
